Xanthe liked Pete - but were his tastes a little too refined?

MAKING an impression

So how was the big date with Pete?' Ellie asked as soon as they sat down.

Xanthe waved a hand. 'Hang on a mo. I need to eat first. I'm starving.'

She was so hungry, finishing her meal didn't take long, the burger and fries tasted so good.

'You wanted to know about last night? Well, he took me to Georgio's. Do you know it?'

'Of course!' gasped Ellie.

'It's only the most exclusive restaurant for miles around. But it's way over my budget. What was it like?'

'Amazing. There was so much steel and glass, it was like eating in an alien spaceship. Peter booked their taster menu, where you get to try lots of different courses. Everything was so lovingly prepared, each dish could have been framed as a work of art.' She showed Ellie some of the pictures she'd taken on her phone. 'We had blue cheese tart, roast lamb with crushed new potatoes and baby carrots, and loads more.'

'Lucky you!' breathed Ellie. 'That strawberry tart looks divine.'

'It was even more delicious than it looks, but there was one teeny, tiny problem. The portion was so small, it could have perched on a teaspoon with room to spare.' She pulled up a picture of the lamb course and zoomed in on the carrots. 'Have a look at these.'
