On set in Adelaide, the Outrageous star reveals why our country has a special spot in her heart

ANNA CHANCELLOR 'AUSTRALIA ISA REMARKABLE PLACE'

From Four Weddings And A Funeral to Pride And Prejudice, British actress Anna Chancellor has featured in some of our most beloved movies and series over her dazzling 30-year career. Now, the 60-year-old is starring as Sydney Bowles Mitford, one of the infamous real-life Mitford sisters who made headlines in the 1930s, in new period drama Outrageous.

You've been filming in Adelaide for nearly three months [for the upcoming Netflix adaptation of My Brilliant Career]. Are you ready to get home to the UK?

I'm quite ready to get back but that doesn't mean I don't love Australia — I do. It's a remarkable place.

imageHave you filmed here before?

No. My best friend from drama school was from Sydney, so when my daughter was about four we came to Australia. Which now is over 30 years ago. And we stayed with her and I haven't been back since.

Have you been able to explore much, off set?

We had a weekend off earlier on and my friend Gabby came from Sydney and we went to Kangaroo Island. My daughter died a couple of years ago. My grief is just as intense, I’m afraid, two years later. I found in Adelaide a wonderful grief counsellor who’s called Rosemary Wanganeen and she’s from a local Aboriginal family.
