'NOBODY ON TV IS THEMSELVES'

But while her life has been peppered with great achievements, speaking of becoming a grandma to daughter Rosie's baby girl Billie, Lorraine says that, 'It is the best thing that's happened to me.'

Yet despite her beloved role as hands-on 'Granny Smith' (Lorraine's married name is Smith), one thing she won't be doing is stepping away from up her daily breakfast show to be a full-time grandma. 'I couldn't give up the show because I love it,' she says, adding, 'I would do the telly as long as people want me to do it.'

Here, Lorraine, 65, opens up about being a 'version' of herself on TV, career lows and why she's loving the stage of life she's at now.

Besotted with baby

Describing her as 'the light of my life', Lorraine says of her granddaughter, who was born last August, 'She looks so like Rosie and I keep seeing echoes of people in her, including my gran and Steve's sister, Margaret, who's no longer with us. When Billie smiles, I'm like, "B****y h**l, that's Margaret!"

And revealing how, in some ways, being a granny is perhaps easier than being a mum, she adds, 'When you're a mum you don't know what you're doing. Now you have all the love and you don't have any fear.'
