Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

|May 2023
Team Ninja swaps feudal Japan for third-century China, but keeps the hardcore combat for a more accessible take on the Dark Souls formula

Back in 2017, Nioh came damned close to matching the punishingly difficult but oh-so-satisfying gameplay pioneered by Dark Souls (and arguably perfected by Elden Ring). So Team Ninja has smartly built on those foundations for follow-up Wo Long, a heady blend of Chinese mythology and original storytelling involving a mysterious elixir that turns people into demons.
The essentials are still there, namely some ultra-masochistic challenges you'll have to master or die trying. But a few smart new additions, which tie neatly in to the game's setting, might make this the genre's most approachable entry point yet.
