SONOS MOVE 2

August 2025

The Move 2 is a proper Sonos multiroom speaker at home, and offers the flexibility to take it out and about and use it with WiFi or Bluetooth from your phone.

SONOS MOVE 2

And it brings a slew of improvements over the older version: an updated interface, stereo capability and drastically extended battery life.

Like its predecessor, it's quite weighty at 3kg. It's 24cm tall and IP56 water-resistant, with a wireless charging stand (a pleasingly long 2m cable is supplied) and a rubberised base housing the battery.

Coming in a new outdoorsy green, as well as the usual black and white matt finishes, the new design is very similar to the older model. There's just a new volume slider alongside the other touch controls for normal audio functions.

But Sonos has completely reworked the audio. The newly introduced dual tweeters and mid-range woofer really do pack a punch.

System of mercy

There's no spatial audio like the Era 300 or Arc soundbar, but that's hardly surprising and surely won't be a dealbreaker for most. And you can adjust the EQ in-app. The Sonos Trueplay tuning tech is supported on Android as well as iOS (with older devices it was limited to Apple devices); and the wireless capability is such that you can use it to play Bluetooth audio to the rest of your Sonos system. You can also stereo-pair it with another Move 2, but not with an original Move.

There's support for Sonos's own voice assistant as well as Alexa. The integration with Amazon's assistant is smooth and pretty responsive – we're far from the early days of its patchy appearance on the Sonos One. There's support for AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect too.

But the biggest boon is the battery life, which has increased from 11 to 24hrs – meaning you can take it away for a few days without issue. This also makes it a much more appealing option for locations in the house where having a power cable dangling would be unacceptable.
