The rise of Generative AI (GenAI) has been even more rapid than the internet's, but up until this point the biggest GenAI buzz has surrounded online services. Whether you use ChatGPT or video GenAl such as Sora, you enter a prompt via a web interface and download the results from there, too. Your local hardware has been irrelevant.

You might think that recent Adobe innovations such as Firefly, Generative Fill in Photoshop and Generative Extend in Premiere Pro do some of their processing on your workstation, because they’re integrated into software that runs locally. However, they need online connectivity to work, and most of the heavy processing is still running remotely. The sole exception is Al audio enhancement in Premiere Pro, which does run locally and doesn’t require an internet connection.
