Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro
PC Pro
|December 2022
A fine rough-and-tumble watch, but it will struggle to lure away existing fans of Suunto and Garmin
While the regular Galaxy Watch5 (see opposite) is largely an incremental update to last year's model, the new Watch5 Pro takes things further. It's a bigger, more rugged device with a few high-end enhancements.
The most obvious is the casing. This is made of titanium, rather than the aluminium of the standard Watch5, and it includes a solid raised surround for the display. This makes it quite a bit heavier at 47g, and it feels more chunky and substantial on the wrist. An IP68 rating provides reassurance that the watch can be submerged for over 30 minutes at depths greater than one metre.
The silicone strap gets an upgrade too, with a hinged D-buckle that's exclusive to the Pro. It looks sleek in the Black Titanium colour scheme we tested, but not exactly upmarket; leather bands are on their way soon.
Naturally, the Watch5 Pro matches the smartwatch capabilities of its cheaper sibling. The interface is just as smart and colourful, and the Super AMOLED screen looks every bit as super. The Wear OS core gives you access to a wide range of third-party apps via the Google Play store, plus your choice of Samsung's or Google's voice assistant and payment platforms.
