Edge computing: Building a digital nation where data lives
DQ Channels
|July 2025
Edge computing in India isn't a tech trend; it's a partner revolution. From rural Al to factory floors, it's reshaping business, unlocking Rs 16,000 crore in services. The edge is alive, local, and lucrative. Are you building where the data lives?

In Indian IT boardrooms, the question is no longer “What is edge computing?” but “How do we monetise it?”
Edge computing in India has moved past pilots. It's already powering live retail analytics, branch-level cybersecurity and factory automation—all without round trips to the Cloud. With 5G, IoT and AI converging at the edge, channel partners now find themselves at the centre of a new IT economy—one that rewards agility, specialisation and outcome-based delivery.
The rise of edge computing in India: Market forces at play
India's edge computing market is set to surpass USD 2 billion by 2029, fuelled by initiatives like Digital India, smart city rollouts and the push for data localisation. This rapid evolution is powered by the confluence of several key forces.
5G expansion is perhaps the most foundational enabler. With Indian telecom giants investing heavily in 5G rollouts, edge computing is becoming not only feasible but essential. These networks drastically reduce latency, which is critical for applications like autonomous vehicles, live surveillance and telemedicine. By placing compute closer to data generation points, 5G enhances the ability of partners to deliver ultra-responsive, resilient services even in remote or bandwidth-constrained areas.
AI and IoT growth has accelerated the need for localised intelligence. From surveillance cameras capable of facial recognition to smart meters in rural districts, the sheer volume of sensor data demands in-situ processing. Enterprises are embracing edge computing as a necessity for filtering, analysing and acting on data before it ever leaves the premises.
