I can’t wait to learn best - Wafer

SIX Nations player of the tournament, Ireland star Aoife Wafer, can’t wait to pick the brains of her new back row colleagues at Harlequins after the World Cup.

The 22-year-old flanker has won 15 caps since her debut in 2022 and was named in World Rugby’s 2024 women’s Dream Team after a standout campaign in WXV1, which included a win over reigning world champions New Zealand.

Ireland have endured multiple setbacks ahead of this summer’s showpiece tournament with Dorothy Wall and Erin King ruled out. Wafer suggested the back row may be cursed, given she attended a recent media day in a boot due to a leg injury, but the Ballygarrett-born forward has since returned to full health and can’t wait to join the ever-growing Premiership Women’s Rugby in England.

Wafer told The Rugby Paper: “A few months ago, I visited a couple of clubs and Harlequins stood out to me in terms of how the families were looked after, how sound the girls were and the style they play. It was a really tough decision to make and one that I had to go back and forth on. It took a while to kind of fully decide.
