George calls on Twickenham crowd

JAMIE George has urged the Twickenham crowd to give a little respect to Eddie Jones – then watch England ruin the Australian’s day at his former workplace.

Japan boss Jones is on his second trip to the ground since being sacked by the RFU in December 2022 having coached the Barbarians there in 2023.

Jones’s coaching methods have been under the microscope again with the release of a book by Danny Care who wrote playing under him was like living in a dictatorship.

But George recognises that Jones’ stats as England head coach, coming in after the disaster of the 2015 World Cup stand up to the toughest of scrutiny.

Jones won three Six Nations titles, including a Grand Slam in 2016, whitewashed the Wallabies down under and got England to a World Cup final in 2019.

His win record of 72.8 per cent, over 81 games, is better than that of Clive Woodward, who did land the ultimate prize, and also trumps those of Geoff Cooke and Jack Rowell.

When Jones, right, was working his ill-fated stint for Australia at the last World Cup he got booed every time his face came up on a big screen in grounds around France.
