LEEDS TYKES were thankful for their resolute defence as they clung on to claim a narrow win against Fylde.
The home side made a stunning start when David Fairbrother dived over just right of the posts after two minutes, Patrick Bishop kicking the simple conversion.
But Leeds Tykes immediately hit back with 10 minutes of intense pressure leading to the home side’s Matt Garrod being yellow carded. Two minutes into his sin-bin Leeds were awarded a penalty try followed by a further Fylde yellow card as Peter Altham was sinbinned.
Leeds took full advantage of their two extra men on the pitch when, in the 20th minute, a lineout maul from inside the Fylde 22 was driven into the left corner, allowing Aarin Yorke to dive over and put the visitors in the lead.
