Fit-again Hodge keen to kick on with Chiefs

JOSH Hodge is getting a kick out of life at Exeter as the fullback looks to put himself in contention for summer England's tour to Argentina.

The 24-year old has been given goal-kicking responsibilities this season, a role he covets, and he went into yesterday's Premiership Rugby Cup semi-final against Ealing Trailfinders on 146 points for the season, a haul that included 11 tries.

Hodge has largely had to watch others aim for goal during his five years at Sandy Park but he has been given a chance this season and believes kicking enhances his game.

"It has been good to get my kicking boots back on," said Hodge, who was in the England A squad for last month's match against Ireland A. "I missed out on it earlier in my Exeter career.

"It is one of the things I love doing and keeps me really concentrated in a game. When I have opportunities to kick it puts a focus in my mind and brings the best out of me.

"This year a lot of that load has been put on me and I can be myself, have those highlight moments and help the team. I have been kicking since I was nine and in pretty much every team I have been in.

"I thrive on being able to step up in what people think are high pressure moments. I really enjoy it and want to carry it on."
