England must find a way to deliver
The Rugby Paper
|December 22, 2024
WITH Christmas fast approaching, it’s time for us all to look forward to better things and hope we achieve them.
For rugby fans, that could be the club that we support either keep on playing the right game and keep winning, or if you support a club that always seem to lose, they change direction to become a winning side.
On the international stage, the England supporters are hoping for the excuses and promises to finally stop and that the team begin delivering the right results on the field and move back into a winning mode early enough in preparation for the 2027 RWC.
This season’s Six Nations will be a vital step towards that goal, as England are not likely to get such an easy draw as the one they got back in 2023 again. Therefore, they must start showing the ability to win games and show that they have the collective skills and mental strength to close out their opponents for a full 80 minutes by restricting the opposition’s opportunities throughout the game.
With just a short while to prepare before the start of the Six Nations in February, England are facing a tough start to the competition against Ireland in Dublin, then followed by France at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham, which are probably the hardest two games they will face in this season’s competition.
However, this is the competition that Steve Borthwick, right, must ‘blood’ any new players who he feels are the next step in his team development to give them the chance to gain the experience needed to play effectively at the top of the game.
