Camborne and Clifton combine to help create a team
The Rugby Paper
|May 25, 2025
LIFTON and Camborne contested a two-horse title race, with the former coming out on top, winning promotion on the final day.
The top two were streaks ahead of the rest, with 23 points separating first and third, meaning over half of this season’s Dream Team derives from Clifton and Camborne.
Camborne were the league’s pacesetters, winning nine of their opening 10 games, but came unstuck in the second half of the campaign. The Cornwall side surrendered their league to a capitalising Clifton, who finished the season with nine consecutive wins.
Despite their title pursuit unravelling, Camborne’s 105-point year saw Stephen Larkin’s side possess the most inclusions with five, including the entirety of the front row that are the backbone of their team.
Clifton’s lynchpins at halfback: scrum-half Mitch Spencer and talismanic ten Ollie Milner, were rewarded for driving their title win but it’s not just a top two affair, with half of the league's clubs involved.
Hornets enjoyed a remarkable second half of the season turnaround, which saw the Weston Super Mare outfit go from relegation candidates to top six finishers. Jon Richardson’s men have two players selected, as do last year’s runners-up Luctonians after finishing fifth.
Third-place Taunton Titans are included as expected but the bottom half are also represented with relegated Bournville and newly promoted survivors Macclesfield earning selections. Loughborough Students finished fourth and will feel aggrieved to have missed out. Cinderford, Redruth, Hinckley and Old Redcliffians, who finished seventh to tenth, plus 12th placed Exeter University and bottom side Devonport Services also missed out on selection.
15. Charlie Carter (Hornets)
