Ancient vertebrates (animals that have backbones) had four eyes that worked a lot like ours, new research shows.

The oldest known creatures with spines are called myllokunmingids (say my-loh-cun-minjids), a group of fish that did not have jaws. They're smaller than a child's thumb and lived in what is now China more than 500 million years ago.
