An apprentice gardener dedicated to changing the way people view gardens has won an Apprentice of the Year award.

After completing his apprenticeship with Leeds City Council’s parks and green spaces team, he is now working full time for the authority as craft gardener at locations like Kirkstall Abbey.
Thirty-four-year-old Chris Cole started his horticulture apprenticeship in 2023, having first discovered he enjoyed gardening when he took up the hobby during lockdown.
