Community pitches up with parking concerns

Angry Cleland residents have launched a petition against ongoing parking problems at a new football pitch in the village.

The new synthetic community pitch complete with floodlights has been installed by North Lanarkshire Council at a cost of around £1.2 million.

However, residents living near to the facility in Omoa Road, Gray Street and Aberlady Street have voiced concerns that no car park has been built to cope with an expected increase in the number of vehicles.

In a letter sent to North Lanarkshire Council, the residents state: "There is no objection to the actual pitch however the council seemed in a rush to complete the installation without proper car parking or changing and toilet facilities.

"In the planning application it is stated that there is no impact in regard to parking as it is an established recreational sport pitch.
