AFTER the summer recess, Parliament returned this week with immigration at the top of the news agenda.

With the small boats crisis dominating the headlines, the government was keen to regain the political momentum.

Last weekend, they trailed plans to suspend refugee family reunion applications until new, stricter rules are in place. On Monday, I was in the Chamber when the Home Secretary confirmed this policy. It was galling to hear so many Conservative MPs lambast an immigration system which they played a significant role in breaking.
