Fury as West misses out on billions for transport

AN MP has hit back after Cornwall was “completely left out” of the Government's newly announced £15 billion UK-wide transport infrastructure programme.

Ben Maguire MP, Cllr Leigh Frost, leader of Cornwall Council, and Cllr Dan Rogerson, Cornwall Council’s cabinet member for transport, all co-signed a letter to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, to express “extreme disappointment” that Cornwall was completely left out of the Government's newly announced plans.

The joint letter urges the Government to rethink its plans and include rural areas like Cornwall where public transport is “vital for connectivity and our economy”. Their letter highlights that North Cornwall has no mainline train station and has faced repeated cuts to local bus routes, as the billions were announced for public transport upgrades in places outside of London including Manchester, West Midlands and West Yorkshire.
