We must stop leaking vital late goals, insists new Exiles keeper
Western Mail
|August 19, 2025
NEWPORT County goalkeeper Nik Tzanev knows the Exiles cannot keep conceding stoppage-time goals if they are to make any progress this season.
-

Tzanev saved a Grimsby Town penalty after Courtney Baker-Richardson's first-minute own goal at Blundell Park on Saturday, and Matt Baker's superb leveller looked to have earned County a draw.
But the Mariners netted all three points with a close-range winner in the fourth minute of time added on, much to Tzanev’s frustration.
It was the fourth goal County have conceded in stoppage time already this season after two at Barnet and one at Crawley Town, and the Exiles No. 1 knows there can be no repeat when they host Salford City at Rodney Parade tonight.
“It’s really frustrating right at the end there when we've held on to a 1-1,” said Tzanev.
