Provide right care in right place

And yet, across the UK we spend five times as much on supporting people in the last 12 months of life in hospital, compared with through community and primary care.

In 2023, on average, a fifth of hospital beds were occupied every day in Wales by people in the last 12 months of life.

For some, this will have been the most appropriate place to receive care. But for others, improved community and out-of-hours care could have let them be supported at home.
