Western Mail Now is the time for reform at the BBC

IT IS to be welcomed that the UK Government is considering reform of the BBC licence fee and more commercial revenue options for the broadcaster.

The BBC's raison d'etre is to be an impartial and trusted news service for the nation and internationally, but it has shot itself in the foot with a series of scandals.

Resignations of top executives, allegations of misconduct against presenters and a lawsuit from US president Donald Trump who is seeking up to $10bn dollars (£7.5bn) in damages in response to the Panorama programme's ham-fisted editing of a speech he made before the 2021 attack on the Capitol - have further eroded trust in the BBC.

It's clear reform is needed if it is to have a future rather than decline in a changing media landscape.
