Driver drank bottle of wine before smashing head on into teen's car
Western Mail
|September 22, 2025
A DRUNK driver who had consumed a bottle of wine collided head on with another vehicle and left his victim with a broken nose and a fracture to her knee.
The driver was later found to be almost three times the drink-drive limit and claimed he was on his way to see an ex-partner in order to reconcile with her.
Stuart Davies, 41, collided with a car driven by Mia Thomas, 19, on the A467 in Brynmawr, Blaenau Gwent, on December 18 last year. She was taken to hospital and suffered injuries to her leg as well as her pelvis.
A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court heard Ms Thomas was driving on the Heads of the Valleys Road before pulling off and driving in the direction of Abertillery.
She left a roundabout and saw a car coming towards her, and within seconds the car hit the front of her vehicle.
Ms Thomas remembered her body being "smashed" and being thrown around. She remembered her car was off the road and there was blood everywhere after she had hit her nose.
