Leonardo staff to vote on strike action over pay

THOUSANDS of workers could strike next month over a pay dispute with the defence contractor Leonardo.

Nearly 3,000 Leonardo employees from across the country - including those based in Yeovil - will be voting on whether to walk out, the Unite union announced on Thursday.

Workers at sites in Yeovil, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Luton and Basildon are being balloted on industrial action after rejecting a pay increase of 3.2%. Unite says that in real terms, this is a pay cut. The ballot will run until early October.
