Hundreds of fines issued for school term-time absence

HUNDREDS of fines have been issued by Cornwall Council to parents and guardians for taking their children out of school during term time, new figures have shown.
Comparison website Confused.com asked all local authorities in England and Wales about the number of fines issued between 2022 and 2024.
Results from the Freedom of Information requests showed that a total 873,000 fixed penalty notices (FPNs) were issued during that time, raising a collective £41 million in fines.
In Cornwall figures showed 535 FPNs were issued in 2022 and another 616 were dished out in January 2024 alone. Cornwall Council did not provide any figures for 2023 and the rest of 2024.
