Cornish craftsman shapes Bentley surfboard

A LUXURY car maker has teamed up with a Cornwall surf firm to create a one-of-a-kind surfboard made from a wood usually used in the interiors of high-performance vehicles.

The koa veneer surfboard was created in a collaboration between Bentley Motors, Marnie Rays, which organises surfing retreats at venues around the world, and Otter Surfboards in Porthtowan, whose products are hollow and made of timber rather than the usual plastic foam.

It is now to be auctioned in aid of a surf charity.

The surfboard's skin is made from koa, a straight-grained timber from Hawaii which is usually used to trim the interiors of luxury touring cars.
