In the face of adversity

Weathering the storm is something you do in the face of adversity. It takes calm, courage and capacity to stand your ground when the going gets rough. In boxing, you roll with the punches, toughen your defense and counter when the timing is right. In basketball, you regroup and make sure everyone on your team is on the same page to stem the tide. In life, it’s about coping with pitfalls and rising to the occasion.

A few days ago, Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra experienced a tragedy when his five-bedroom home went up in smoke and lost everything in it. The fire happened early morning in Coral Gables, Florida and nobody was home. It took eight hours for firemen to douse the blaze that torched the 5,700 square foot house on a 43,000 square foot property with a pool and tennis court. Spoelstra was on a chartered flight with his team from Denver to Miami when the fire broke out and arrived to watch the house turn into cinder.
