‘Small personal loans under stress'

STATE Bank chairman CS Setty on Wednesday said some risk is being built in small-ticket and unsecured loans.
It is not so big and widespread that there is a systemic risk arising from it because most of these delinquencies are coming in from new-to-credit customers, he added.
"We have seen small-value loans have problems, say personal loans in the ₹15,000 to 1 lakh. This is because of the large number of new-to-credit customers accessing the market," Setty said, highlighting that these issues have not reached the level that the industry needs to worry about as it is not in a proportion that "we need to be worried over now".
