America’s V8 icon makes SA debut

IT USED to be that naturally aspirated V8 engines were commonplace on our roads, but the world’s obsession with being greener, downsizing, using less fossil fuel and consumers looking for smaller, less powerful and thirstier vehicles has almost reduced them exclusively to the race track in most countries.

V8 Mustang

Locally, the only V8 available off the showroom floor is the Ford Mustang with its 5.0-litre Coyote engine.

Before the latest Mustang was released, Ford dabbled with the 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine, which buyers ignored like a stop sign on a quiet street, so they stopped importing them. Fortunately, America still bucks the trend and continues its avid love affair with the V8.

You see, V8s are about a visceral experience that speaks to the soul as only a true petrol head can appreciate.
