Region has the lowest employment rate in UK

THE North East still has the lowest proportion of people in work, according to new figures.

The new data from the Office for National Statistics show that the region’s unemployment rate has risen to 4.8%, matching the English average.

Meanwhile, the proportion of people in the region classified as economically inactive those not working due to ill health, caring responsibilities or early retirement - fell slightly to 28.2%.
