Drivers who took part in drag race on public road are banned

> Omar Alhamad and Nader Zaini

Nader Zaini and Omar Alhamad were captured on CCTV going head-to-head against each other in their BMWs along the A193, in Blyth, Northumberland.

The footage shows other motorists using the road at the time of the late-night race, which started at the Mermaid Car Park and saw the pair doing a “number of laps” at high speeds.

By virtue of the fact the were drag racing, both their insurances were void, a court was told.

Alhamad, 22, of The Oval, in Blyth, and Zaini, 18, of Coltpark Place, in Cramlington, have now been banned from the road for 12 months each after they pleaded guilty to taking part in a race between motor vehicles on a public way and driving with no insurance.
