'Soulless' housing site set for green light at meeting

A NEW housing development set for approval has been labelled “soulless” by objecting residents.

People living near the proposed expansion of the existing estate near Colliery Road in Bearpark say the area already has enough housing.

Gleeson Homes' application for 48 homes has received backing from Durham County Council officers in advance of a planning committee meeting scheduled for tomorrow.

Yet those campaigning against the scheme have warned that community amenities are coming under mounting pressure and would struggle to accommodate the additional strain.

A total of 13 objection letters were sent to the local authority in a bid to convince councillors to overrule the recommendation.
