Businesses grow, but confidence in economy drops

BUSINESS confidence in the North East fell during June as a gap emerged between firms' hopes for their own prospects and confidence in the wider economy.
The latest Business Barometer from Lloyds Bank found that overall business confidence in the region fell 11 points during June to 54. Companies in the region reported higher confidence in their own business prospects month-on-month, up 14 points to 79%, but their optimism in the economy fell 37 points to 28%.
Taken together, this gives a headline confidence reading of 54%, down from 65% in May.
