SPECIAL SURPRISE FOR JOY ON HER 95TH BIRTHDAY

A FORMER hospice nurse was left in tears of joy when the charity she once served made a surprise return visit - four decades after she helped shape its early days.
Joy Ridley, who was one of the first nursing auxiliaries at St Luke's Hospice Plymouth in the 1980s, was celebrating her 95th birthday when a special visitor arrived to mark the occasion.
Jess Timbrell, a current paramedic at the hospice, delivered flowers and a birthday card to Ms Ridley at Venn Court in Brixton - a heartwarming moment that bridged generations of hospice care.
Though the two women had never met before, they shared an immediate connection through their work supporting people with terminal illnesses.
