FAMILIES managed to escape their blazing homes as fire ripped through a row of terraced houses on Teesside.

- By SUE KIRBY

Thankfully no-one was injured, but some of the residents have lost everything in the fire, including children's Christmas presents.

It is believed the fire broke out around 4.40am on Sunday at one of the homes in Brotton’s Errington Street and possibly spread through the roof area of the properties.

Brotton Ward Cllr Barry Hunt said the main priority is that everyone is safe.

He said he and his fellow ward councillors visited the scene and “what a mess it is”.

“Number one priority is that everyone is safe and no-one has died or seriously injured. There is a disabled man in one of the homes and thankfully he is safe as well,” he said.
