Riprap collapses in Lahug, probe on

The Cebu City government is now investigating a riprap wall serving as a flood-control measure that collapsed yesterday in Sitio Tarcom, Barangay Lahug.

This was confirmed by Councilor Edgardo “Jaypee” Labella, chairman of the Committee on Infrastructure of the City Council.

During his inspection on the same day, Labella said that the wall already showed small cracks a day prior to its collapse.

As of yesterday, Labella assessed that almost half of the wall --approximately 50 meters-- had collapsed and showed visible damage.

Labella didn't discount the possibility it was caused by heavy rains as the city has been experiencing heavy downpours in previous days. As a precautionary measure, a watcher has already been assigned to monitor the area.

“Di sad ta pwede moduol kay kuyaw sad ang pikas (wall) nga mahulpa kay nagsugod na siya og crack,” said Labella.
