P5 billion sought to improve Cebu ports

Cebu Provincial Board Member Lakambini Reluya has urged the Office of the President to set aside P5 billion for the rehabilitation and upgrading of ports across Cebu, stressing that maritime transport is now a critical solution to worsening road congestion and a driver for stronger commerce and tourism in the province.
Reluya filed a resolution before the 17th Sangguniang Panlalawigan in yesterday's regular session requesting President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to tap national government funds for the massive port improvement program.
Reluya, chairman of the Committee on Commerce and Industry, said the rehabilitation would cover both big and small ports in Cebu, many of which are in dire need of modernization to keep up with growing demand from shippers, passengers, and local industries.
