EMERGENCY PREP BASICS

The Freeman

October 03, 2025

The recent string of natural disasters — from different parts of the world to the most recent earthquake in Cebu has doubtlessly reminded us of our vulnerabilities, giving due emphasis to the value in always being prepared.

EMERGENCY PREP BASICS

From storing ready-to-eat/no cooking necessary goods to securing an ample number of self-powered light sources, households are no longer strangers to the practice of stocking up on in-case-of-emergency essentials by now, but questions running along the lines of “are these supplies ample enough?” or “what else should I prepare?” have been raised, one way or another.

While an exact and definite answer to those questions is impossible to give out, the sentiments of those who had to deal with the aftermath brought about by Sendong in Cagayan de Oro in 2011 and Odette in Cebu in 2021 may give some insight to those who are wondering.

The events may have a ten-year gap between them, but the lessons learned from them doesn’t have an expiration date.

On Water Supply and “Emergency Pantries”

Ravaging homes and causing the demise of many, Sendong left Cagayan de Oro City with water supply problems after it struck.

Survivors share that they’ve never really experienced a water supply problem in the city that severe prior to the storm, and their views on how they dealt with the situation is a treasure throve of information to anyone.

Fiesta in Dumanjug, home of great governors & contractors

The town of my late father, Dumanjug, is the most progressive town in the 7th District. It is the home of three governors and two fantastic contractors. Today and tomorrow, the Dumanjuganons celebrate the solemnity of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi led by Mayor Gungun Gica and Vice Mayor Wado Gica. Shoutout to my relatives especially the great clan of the Quirantes, especially engineers Alan and Jonathan.
