Unemployment rate rises to 4.8%

India’s unemployment rate edged up marginally to 4.8% in December 2025 from 4.7% in November, reflecting largely stable labour market conditions, according to the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation on Thursday.
The data show a steady picture in rural areas, where the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.9%.
