In a significant political development, two prominent leaders—Leh Apex Body (LAB) Chairman Thupstan Chhewang and senior Congress leader Nawang Rigzin Jora—resigned on Sunday from the LAB, which along with the Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has been spearheading talks with the Centre over Ladakh's four-point agenda, including statehood and inclusion in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Chhewang, a former Member of Parliament who had quit the BJP in 2018, announced his resignation from both the LAB and the High Powered Committee (HPC) constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs. "Since stepping away from electoral politics, I have consistently distanced myself from partisan and individual agendas. In keeping with this stance, I hereby resign..."

"I prefer not to be entangled in competing interests," he stated in a press release, while thanking members of the LAB and KDA for their support during his tenure.
