RAHUL GANDHI'S POLITICAL GAMBLE: BETWEEN DESPERATION AND ANARCHY

The Daily Guardian

What has happened to Rahul Gandhi? This question, once rhetorical, is fast becoming central to India’s political discourse.

- RAKESH SHARMA

After exhausting every arrow in his quiver in the pursuit of power—levelling false allegations, experimenting with rhetoric, and losing elections nearly ninety times in succession—the Congress scion appears both frustrated and restless. His latest appeal to Zen Ji, calling upon him to step forward to “save democracy” and “protect the Constitution” with the promise of his support, is less a political strategy than a desperate cry. But is this an act of leadership, or an incitement to disorder?

To many, Rahul Gandhi's words amount to fuelling unrest. In the delicate balance of national stability, progress, and development, such calls for upheaval could easily be placed in the category of conspiracy. For what purpose does he issue such remarks, if not to create conditions for political turbulence? Is his sole aim to capture power by fulfilling the designs of foreign patrons? Otherwise, why would he speak in a manner so discordant with the aspirations of India’s people?

A REALITY CHECK FROM THE YOUNG

‘The result of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) elections has underscored the reality of Rahul Gandhi's waning appeal among India’s youth. Congress-backed NSUI (National Students’ Union of India) faced a crushing defeat, while the BJP-supported Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured three out of four seats, including the president's post. This result was more than justa student union contest; itwasa litmus test of political mood among young Indians. The verdict was clear: Rahul Gandhi does not inspire trust or confidence among the country’s next generation.

Lotus shines brighter than ever

Many people believe that the present BJP, which has 240 seats in the Lok Sabha, is weaker than the BJP of 2019, which had 303 seats. From a purely parliamentary numbers perspective, the party now depends on allies to retain power. Because of this, many assumed that the 2024 Lok Sabha election results marked the beginning of the BJP’s decline.
