New approach to council's problems deserves a chance

FOR all the hordes of armchair critics always ready to explain, at length, exactly what's wrong with Cornwall Council, few of them would be willing to change places with its new leader Leigh Frost, who sets out the new administration’s agenda in our pages today.

As befits a former barrow boy, Cllr Frost doesn’t pull his punches. He admits (and how refreshing it is to see it in black and white, after so many years of puffery and pretence) that Cornwall Council is “not very good at private business” He talks of holding South West Water's feet to the fire with a council inquiry into its manifest and multifold failures. He promises an end to fruitless “consultations and business plans” and a renewed focus on the basics: potholes, public transport and the other services only a well-run council can provide effectively.
