Stinking balls have closed Umhlanga beaches

Two of Umhlanga's beaches have been closed to the public after the discovery of balls that some believe contain faeces.

In a video circulating on social media, a man shows what is believed to be balls of faeces on the sand.

According to eThekwini municipality spokesperson Gugu Sisilana, the city is aware of the video but stressed that it had not yet been confirmed that the balls contain faeces.

"At this stage, we cannot confirm if the balls are human waste, until confirmation by laboratory tests. The city wishes to warn the public against spreading unverified information," she said.
