Race against time to save Elaleni's Swamp Fig Forest

The protected Swamp Fig Forest in Elaleni Coastal Forest Estate is under threat as sediment from nearby developments smothers its ecosystem.

But residents and experts are stepping in to reverse the damage before it's too late.

Simon Bundy, an ecologist working for Elaleni and Zululami estates, revealed that about 22,000 cubic metres of soil from Auria's Coral Cove Senior Living Estate and Elaleni developments have buried sections of the forest. This excessive sediment suffocates the trees and devastates vegetation.
