PET recycling giant opens R1.1bn facility in Ballito

International packaging and recycling specialist Alpla has made a significant entry into South Africa's polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling market with the launch of a R1.1 billion state-of-the-art recycling plant in Ballito.
The facility aims to produce up to 35 000 tonnes of recycled PET (rPET) annually.
Spanning 90 000m², the plant marks a milestone in South Africa's recycling and packaging industries.
It will supply high-quality, food-safe rPET flakes and pellets, a key component in producing plastic packaging at Alpla's Lanseria production plant.
The facility officially opened in November.
Alpla chair Günther Lehner said: "Together with our customers and partners, our aim is to provide safe, affordable and sustainable packaging solutions."
