Square fall at final hurdle in fight for another promotion

DIAL Square narrowly missed out on promotion after coming up short at the final hurdle against Wimbledon Casuals.

It was make or break for Steve Brown's side, who travelled to Quintin Hogg Memorial Sports Ground needing just a point to move above AFC Walcountians in the Surrey Premier County Football League table to secure a fourth successive promotion.

But two late goals in each half, without reply, from the three-time champions meant Dial were pipped to the post on goal difference on the final day of the season.

Buoyed by their 4-1 win over Worcester Park six days earlier, Dial had managed to regain their mojo after a mixed bag of results throughout April.

Despite being without influential captain Will Neville (injured) and James Vass, Brown welcomed back experienced shot-stopper Andy Rider and Callum Abraham-Barlow to help shore up the back line.
