TWO fatal dog attacks in under a year haunt a sleepy working-class suburb.

There's no work, pits have shut so people breed pets

Penyrheol in Caerphilly is part of the Gwent police area where people are at the highest risk of being bitten.

In 2021, an XL Bully killed Jack Lis, 10, then another of the breed fatally injured gran Shirley Patrick, 83.

Despite the breed being banned last year, they are still there but hidden.

One woman told us: "People may have gone to prison for what happened but their supposed mates are still about and there is still that fear about speaking out.

"But thanks to work done locally we now know where to report these things and know they will be taken seriously, so we might not put our head above the parapet but we know how to deal with it.
