Professor Sir Jim McDonald

THE former principal of a university facing staff redundancies spent more than £59,000 in expenses in just two years.

More than 400 Strathclyde University workers will walk out later this month in a dispute over plans to cut 76 jobs.

We can reveal the ex-vice-chancellor and principal, Professor Sir Jim McDonald, racked up £59,300 in expenses between April 2023 and July 2025.

A total of £44,549 was spent on air travel - including £25,221 on eight business-class flights to destinations such as Hong Kong, Beijing, New York, San Francisco, Amsterdam and Bangkok between October 2024 and February last year.
