My sister.. Sister Catherine
Sunday Mail
|January 11, 2026
FANS of the BBC's Call the Midwife know her as Sister Catherine, the latest addition to the team of nuns at Nonnatus House.
I know her as Molly Vevers, my baby sister, although I tend to just call her Molly... or “Mols”.
I'm Dan, Chief Reporter at the Sunday Mail, and over my career I've grilled prime ministers, first ministers, top cops and CEOs.
But interviewing my own sis in the Sunday Mail's office in Glasgow is right up there with my strangest experiences in journalism.
“Honestly, I'm not sure whose idea this was.
Enough about me anyway. Molly is the famous one - or at least, she's on her way. At this she makes a face at me. I'm used to it - but she does admit: “Getting recognised has happened a few times now.
“One time I was doing Pollok Parkrun in Glasgow and jogging along, and I was struggling because it was the final lap of three.
“I nudged someone's shoulder as I was running past them and I thought she was saying, ‘Watch where you're going.’ I took my headphones out and what she actually said was, ‘No habit today?”
For Call the Midwife's legion of fans - with its new series premiering tonight - Molly is already a well-kent face and fan favourite.
Molly's character, the eager Sister Catherine, joined midway through Series 14 last year as a trainee midwife and postulant in the Order in layman's terms, a trainee nun.
Catherine's conflict between her faith and her estranged family, who opposed her becoming a nun, plagued her with doubts last series - but in the finale, she committed to her calling and made her First Vows.
Molly, 34, said: “Season 15 is great because my character is in the swing of being part of the group, going out on cases on her own and dealing with some really difficult things.
