Right Wembley wrongs: Gaffer

A BUOYANT Dave Challinor has urged his League One play-off contenders to “right the wrongs” of old Wembley wounds, as The Hatters prepare for the end of season lottery vying for the ultimate prize of promotion to the Championship.

Saturday's stirring 3-2 comeback win over Lincoln City at Edgeley Park moved County into third in League One, with just one game of the regular season to come this Saturday at fourth-placed Wycombe Wanderers.

A point at Adams Park would all but confirm a third-placed finish in The Hatters’ first campaign back in the third tier in fifteen years, with a two-legged semi-final to come against the side in sixth in that scenario.

Trailing 0-2 at the break against The Imps on Saturday, Jayden Fevrier inspired the hosts to a memorable three points, scoring one and assisting two as County fought back to maintain their impressive end-of-season form.

Automatic promotion was finally ruled out via Wrexham’s 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic on Saturday, but The Hatters know that a positive result against direct promotion rivals this Saturday would seal the perceived advantage of the decisive second leg of the play-off semi-final coming at Edgeley Park.

After Will Collar had hauled County level following Fevrier’s deflected finish, Tanto Olaofe sealed the win at a jubilant Edgeley Park against the mid-table visitors on Saturday.
